Shade Tree Commission
The Shade Tree Commission, established under N.J.S.A. 40:64-1 et seq., is responsible for the regulation, planting, care, and protection of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery throughout the Borough of Bound Brook. Composed of five resident members appointed by the Mayor, the Commission oversees trees located along Borough streets, parks, and other public places, except where State or County jurisdiction applies. Through its stewardship, the Commission helps preserve the Borough’s tree canopy, enhance public spaces, and promote a healthy, attractive community environment.
The Commission also:
- Holds a community Arbor Day event each year in April to promote tree stewardship and appreciation on the part of residents.
- Reports annually to the State of New Jersey on Bound Brook’s progress in implementing its Community Forestry Management Plan and its status as a Tree City USA.
Bound Brook was first designated as a Tree City in 2006. Note the signs as you enter the town on Route 28 (westbound), East Main Street (westbound), Mountain Avenue (southbound) and Tea Street (southbound).
All street trees in Bound Brook are under the control of the Borough, meaning it is not legal to cut, prune, remove or damage any street tree. If you have a concern about a tree, please complete an Inspection Request form. The request will be forwarded to the Shade Tree Commission for action. If you would like to request a new street tree, please complete a New Tree Request Form. There is no charge for trees planted by the Borough.
